I realize this is a crapshoot, but I've been searching the net most of
the morning to no avail so far. Does anyone know how to make a script
(or cursive) LOWERCASE r in LyX? I'm assuming there is some ERT I
need to properly format, but so far I get nothing like what I want.

Thanks!

I don't understand what you mean. Text can be made cursive with the text style dialog.

Whoops! I meant within the context of an equation. Does the text
style dialog still work with an equation?

No, but there is a special font button in the math toolbar. But every character you insert to a
formula is already by default cursive (italic).

But anyway, the Math manual lists everything you can do with math and fonts and how you do this with
LyX.
