Discussion:
Two Adjacent Minipages

In the attached code, the first minipage -- by itself -- prints nR rows of
nC ovals toward the top, left of the page. When I add the second minipage --
which I want to the right side of the first one, both aligned with their tops
at the current baseline, the first minibox shifts down the page and the
second one prints left aligned on a second page.

When I look at the example on page 89 of "Guide to LaTeX, 4th Edition" the
\hfill spaces the two minipages left and right. I've obviously used something
that keeps it from working for me, but I cannot see what that difference is.
Your cluestick is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich

In the attached code,
It would help if the code was actually attached, no?

And now in .lyx format rather than .tex.

Guessing from the difference [1] in the LaTeX export from one of my
documents and the above LaTeX, you did not set the minipages to be STRICTLY
less than 50% of the column width.
I had to do that to put a graphic and some text on the same vertical space
in one of my documents, one minipage is 45% and the other is 50% of the
column width. With the XForms GUI I right click the minipage to get to the
setting.

[1] I see \begin{minipage}[c]{0.45\columnwidth} in my LaTeX but do not in
yours.

+ total less than 100% of the column width.

i.e. 45%+50%<100%

Todd,

I had too small units there (2ex), but even with 5cm as a width I'm still
seeing errors. I'll try your column width percentage approach. FWIW, this is
all in a ERT box within LyX. Makes it easier to press ctrl-t to view the
postscript output.

Thanks,

Rich
