Discussion:
ChkTex in Windows

The extended features document at 5.1 starts with "When you to have the
chktex program installed ..."

However, it gives no hint on how to install.

Chktex is not available in the MiKTeX package manager, but is available in
CTAN.
Is there a different name in MiKTeX?

How does it get installed?

Thank you.

What would be needed to make it available? Since I am the maintainer
nowadays, we can work out a solution. I think you should bundle it in he
installer.

This should be delivered by the LaTeX distribution. It turned out that ChkTeX is available in
TeXLive but not MiKTeX. The MiKTeX maintainer reported me once that he had problems to compile it on
Windows, but this was long ago. I would like when you contact the MiKTeX maintainer (Christian
Schenk cs/at\miktex*org) and ask what he needs to be able to compile it. I'm sure he will add ChkTeX
then to MiKTeX.

Why not bundle it in the installer if MiKTeX doesn't distribute it? I
just managed to get it to work on Windows with MSVC 2008. There is
already MS-DOS code included which can easily be upgraded to Windows.
Maybe we can put Windows support in the official source?

Because this is no real solution. Everybody should benefit and not everybody build its own solution.
ChkTeX is on CTAN that everybody can access it, it is not in MiKTeX either due to compilation
problems or license issues. Please inform Christian Schenk and he will add it.

I have just donwloaded the executable from CTAN and indicated its path to
Lyx and it worked like a charm since TexLive2005 contains other necessary
files.

You are the maintainer of ChkTeX?
Yes, since the last time I asked Baruck Even about applying a patch :) I
tend to produce small patches eveytime I need to use chktex.

The next version is mostly ready for release, I just need to find a
little time to actually do it. I have no idea however whether msdos
support still work. Therefore, testing on windows would be appreciated.

The svn is now here:
https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/chktex/

Testing would be appreciated. The web site is still at Baruch's site,
and therefore things will need to be updated on this side.

I'll try to see first whether Joost (or Enrico on mingw/cygwin?) can
have a go at it.

Builds and runs fine on cygwin OOTB.

Builds with no errors on mingw but crashes at startup in getopt_long()
when using short options. I mean, "chktex --help" works, but "chktex -h"
crashes. Anyway, "chktex file.tex" successfully checks file.tex.
