left-hand side superscript

Hi,

I'm trying to write subscript and superscript text on the left-hand side
of a symbol. However, I can't find any such feature for this in lyx.

I have found a way to achieve this using Tex here:
http://www.tug.org/pipermail/texhax/2004-February/001680.html but the
only way I can manage to make it work is inside some disgusting ERT
(also, I'm not sure how to do subscript in Tex -"_"?).

So, my questions are:

1. Does anyone know how to embed this inside a regular lyx math environment?

2. Is there a way to create a macro or a keyboard shortcut for this?

Thanks,

G.D

I'm not sure this is what you mean:

If you open an 'inline formula', type ^2<cursor right>A, you should
have a left superscript?

It's not entirely nice, because the A is tilted right (being italic).

I know what you mean, but I'm not looking for a "hack".

I would like the symbols to be "related" to each other in the same way a
superscript on the right is "related" to the text after which it
appears. And anyhow, as you said, it doesn't look too good this way.

There is a latex package called leftidx.sty which allows for left superscripts
and subscripts. I doubt that it is supported directly in lyx though (you won't
see it in math mode but you will see it in the output). I don't know if it's the
only option, you need packages that are aimed at chemistry symbols for this.

Just use the normal sub/superscript procedure, but before you enter the
symbol. I attached a LyX example file that probably shows what you want.

Thanks!

The file you attached was really useful. I have used the same method to
generate sub\superscript on the left but I couldn't align it right, your
file shows a solution.

Thanks to everyone that helped me with this question.
